Award winning Filmmaker Inger Smith is a Zimbabwean born artist who has been working as a freelance director and editor in the industry since finishing her studies in 2004.
Now based in South Africa, she uses her work to explore humanity and all its intricacies from identity, life and love, to loss and death; particularly focusing on giving a platform to minorities who are without a voice.
Her short films have travelled across the world to film festivals such as the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland, the Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian film festival in the USA and the Commonwealth Film festival in Manchester, UK. She has been described as “A female voice in the South African New Wave” in an article on channel24.co.za. In 2012 she was named as one of the “exciting directorial voices … (to) hold immense promise for future feature film-making in post-apartheid South Africa” (pg 11 South African Cinema 1896-2010 by Martin Botha)
